Based on a general consensus ISFL Society has been registered with the name “Indian Society for Fuels and Lubricants” having headquarters at IndianOil Corporation Limited, R&D Centre, Faridabad, in 2010. This Society is a non-profit organization for encouraging and tracking the technological advances in the area of fuels & lubricants by organizing workshops, industry meet, educational courses etc.
Another mandate of the society is to organize biennially ISFL Symposium. The current Executive Committee of the ISFL Society has decided to conduct the 11th International Symposium on Fuels and Lubricants – ISFL-2018 jointly with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., R&D Centre. 

 The aims and objectives of the ISFL Society are to conduct activities in the country on matters of scientific nature which shall include the following: 
•To provide forum for national and international experts in the area of fuels and lubricants to exchange views and information on R&D efforts, quality requirements and worldwide trends on fuels and lubricant scenario to strengthen linkages for collaborative programs in downstream Petroleum sector.
• To organize biennial symposium on Fuels & Lubricants in the month of March biennially
• To identify and explore new areas for co-operation in the area of fuels and lubricants.
• To promote research and development into all aspects of fuels and lubricants.
• To disseminate information concerning the developments in the area of fuels and lubricants and their applications through lectures, courses, and workshops and to bring scientists, industry representatives, raw material suppliers, original equipment manufacturers, analytical instrument manufacturers, packagers, and users to a common forum.

Indian Oil R&D IOC-R&D CENTRE 
IndianOil’s sprawling R&D Centre at Faridabad near Delhi is one of Asia’s finest, and plays a key role in supporting the Corporation’s, business interests by developing economical, environment friendly technology solutions. It has won recognition for four decades of pioneering work in lubricants formulation, refinery processes, pipeline transportation and alternative fuels, and holds over 550  patents, of which 360 are international patents.

Lubricant Research 
The vibrant research undertaken by the Centre in tribology is showcased by IndianOil’s SERVO® product line,  with over 4000 lubricant & grease formulations to suit all conceivable applications. The Centre has also developed several in-house refinery process technologies and catalysts to suit Indian conditions. Its alternative energy programmes include bio-energy, solar energy, Hydrogen energy, H-CNG blends, synthetic fuels and shale oil. 
 DBT-IOC centre  has also been established in the IOC, R&D Centre campus which is specially focusing on the development of 2G ethanol process and related bio-fuelsThe Centre is also focussed on cutting-edge research in the areas of nanotechnology, petrochemicals & polymers, coal gasification/ liquefaction, and gas-to-liquid technologies.
